“A Dram Through the Glen: A Perthshire Whisky Journey”

There’s something about Perthshire that stirs the soul — the way the morning mist clings to the heathered hills, or how the rivers glisten like poured gold beneath the Highland sun. My name is Callum Wallace, and I invite you to join me on a magical journey through some of Scotland’s finest scenery — and its most storied drams.

Our adventure begins at The Glenturret, Scotland’s oldest working distillery. Nestled in the green heart of Crieff, the stone walls seem to breathe history. Here, tradition lives in every cask. I’m handed a glass of their Triple Wood, its honeyed warmth lighting a fire in the chest. A tour through their old mash tuns and copper stills reveals the love and patience that go into every drop. Outside, the hills stretch quietly into the distance — ancient sentinels to the craft that’s been honed here since 1763.

Next, we wind our way south to Tullibardine, where modern flair meets Highland heritage. The air is sharp and fresh as I step into their sleek tasting room. The Sovereign expression — smooth, creamy, and bold — is a masterstroke. I speak to the distillers, and their passion is infectious. This isn’t just whisky; it’s art. Through the windows, the Ochil Hills look on approvingly.

From there, the road takes us north through rolling farmland and quiet glens until we arrive in Aberfeldy, home to the Golden Dram. The distillery sits proudly beside the River Tay, where mist rises like ghostly poetry in the dawn. Inside, the scent of malt and oak is a welcoming hug. I sip the 12-year-old expression, and it’s as if the river itself flows through the glass — smooth, rich, and golden. A walk through the Heritage Centre reminds me that Aberfeldy’s story is tied to Dewar’s legacy — bold, ambitious, and deeply rooted in Scottish soil.

Our final stop lies further north, where the road narrows and the land becomes wilder. Blair Athol, in the picturesque town of Pitlochry, is a distillery with soul. The ivy-clad walls and babbling burn give it an almost fairytale charm. Their signature whisky, rich with sherried depth and a spicy finish, is a dram to be savoured slowly — the kind that sits with you long after the glass is empty.

As the sun sets behind Schiehallion, casting a golden glow across the glens, I realise that this journey isn’t just about whisky. It’s about the land, the people, and the stories poured into every bottle. Perthshire is more than a destination — it’s a feeling, an experience, a memory soaked in oak and Highland air.

So raise a glass, my friend. Here’s to the magic of the dram, and to Perthshire — where every drop tells a story.

Slàinte mhath,

Callum Wallace
